ZYEM NYC

Queens
Mo (Monique) Glover began honing her creative skills as an art student at LaGuardia High School of Music & Performing Arts and earned a BFA in Fashion from Pratt Institute. After giving birth to her son Zyem, Mo decided to launch her own brand bearing his name: ZYEM NYC.

Inspired by the Brooklyn street style aesthetic, ZYEM NYC first premiered at Fashion Week Brooklyn in 2017. Since then, her designs have continued to grace the runway and in 2020, Mo co-produced Fashion Week Brooklyn as a virtual event. Mo’s youth fashion line ZYEM Kids will be featured in a forthcoming HBO documentary starring legendary photographer Jamel Shabazz about the life and work of Gordon Parks.

Mo also designs costumes for the children’s photography brand Toddlewood, creatively replicating iconic moments from the Met Gala, fashion magazine covers, and even the film Black Panther. When she’s not designing or styling looks, Glover enjoys crafting new recipes in the kitchen for her audience on Khal.com, teaching aspiring designers, and collaborating with fellow creatives.

What does your company make?

We make apparel and accessories including jackets, tops, dresses, jumpsuits, hats, and facemasks.

What’s the story behind your business?

I am a NYC-based fashion designer with two decades of experience designing for emerging womenswear and children’s retail brands. The birth of my son Zyem combined with a desire to share my own point of view inspired me to launch my own brand bearing his name: ZYEM NYC. Coming of age in Brooklyn and traveling across the globe are also inspirations for the brand.

What is your favorite product right now?

My jackets. I think they are fun, unique, and each purchase comes with a matching face mask.

Anything else you would like us to know?

I am a proud New Yorker, creative, and maker. I am very grateful to have had access to great teachers and resources to develop my skill and live my dream.
